Hair loss remedies are two a penny at the moment. From quick-fix shampoos and herbal oils to expensive LED helmets and the more drastic route of hair transplants, never has there been so much choice for men experiencing thinning up top.
But these often radical (and costly) options aren't always the most practical, nor effective, route to go down compared to the clinically-proven treatments on offer.
Sons is on a mission to make more men aware of this. As the only company specialising in hair loss and scalp conditions that holds an MHRA license for the two clinically-proven hair loss treatments – finasteride and minoxidil – its products have passed rigorous clinical testing and quality assessments prior to being made available for patients.

How Sons Works
Sons uses a subscription plan model to provide men with hassle-free, accessible and effective hair loss treatments. Here's how it works.
1 – Online consultation
Your Sons hair regrowth journey begins with a 1-minute online questionnaire designed to determine the best course of treatment for your condition.
2 – Prescriptions
Once Sons’ prescribing partners deem, your treatment is chosen and becomes part of your daily routine. Prescriptions include products in spray and tablet form, along with non-prescription shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and multivitamins.
3 – Treatment shipped to your door
Renewing automatically for a seamless experience, Sons ensures you always have the treatments you need sent to your door in discreet packaging. These automatic renewals help maintain continuity in your health journey, and ensure there are no gaps in your treatment.
4 – Aftercare
While you're using your treatment, Sons’ pharmacovigilance-trained aftercare team provides ongoing contact and follow-ups. Led by Dr Knut Moe, Sons' medical director and a hair loss specialist, the team monitors, assesses and reports on any adverse effects of its medical treatments, while also checking on patients' health and wellbeing.
Sons Hair Loss Treatments
Sons uses minoxidil and finasteride in its hair loss prescriptions. Hundreds of peer reviewed studies have been made on hair loss treatments, but these are the only two that have been rigorously and clinically proven.
Core Plan
The Sons Core Plan combats hair loss by combining a choice of minoxidil (in either capsule or topical form) and finasteride in order to treat male-pattern hair loss, promote hair growth and enhance hair quality.
Minoxidil works by stimulating new hair growth and boosting hair strength by increasing blood flow to hair follicles. Meanwhile, finasteride blocks DHT – the hormone responsible for male pattern baldness.
Research has found that finasteride is effective at stopping hair loss in 90% of men, and increases hair density in 6 out of 10. However, when used in combination, this double whammy of ingredients has been shown to treat hair loss in ways a single-ingredient treatment can’t, with an effectiveness rate of 94%.
Ultimate Plan
The Sons Ultimate Plan contains the same finasteride and minoxidil combo, plus a DHT-blocking strengthening shampoo and a nine-ingredient hair growth complex multivitamin which, when used in tandem, provides a 360 approach to halting hair loss, stimulating growth, and enhancing hair quality.

Side Effects of Finasteride
When talking about the benefits of finasteride, it's also worth highlighting the potential side effects.
According to studies, side effects are rare and occur in around 4% of people taking finasteride, with 96% of people having no side effects from the medication.
Among those who do experience side effects, they mainly tend to be 'of a sexual nature'. However, Moe adds there that have been 'some reports of associated links with depression, anxiety and more recently an association with suicidality in people with pre-existing mental health issues'.
To err on the side of caution, Sons' consultation model filters out patients with pre-existing anxiety and depression. 'We also encourage side effects being reported through our aftercare team, and patients can report directly to NHS yellow card scheme which we encourage.'
In general, Sons says it minimises the risk of side effects by 'checking summary care records for potential interactions and flags for high-risk patients and by checking in regularly with patients'.
